North American Peace Pilgrimage 1999 - ???? Swami NadaBrahmananda's Report

Swami NadaBrahmananda, the founder of the IMS and its "Strings for Peace" program, has departed on a walking pilgrimage around North America. He will be promoting "World Peace through Meditation".  This idea is based on the idea that a person, meditating on world peace, can have a very real effect and that when many people do this, especially together, the effect is multiplied enormously.  Some years ago, he had a vision of a future where the world is surrounded by a network of thousands of small groups all over the world, using similar visualisations of peace.  To understand how this brings about world peace, one has to accept the idea that what happens in the physical world is very strongly influenced by what is going on in the spiritual planes of consciousness.  He has personally conducted private meditation groups for healing and world peace for more than 25 years.  Each person is invited to wear a simple piece of blue string, symbolizing peace, around their wrist, on the opposite side from the wrist-watch.  The latter indicates the "timelessness of all need for healing and peace".

It is also hoped that a new Universal Pilgrimage trail around North America will be established, connecting many sites and shrines of general spiritual interest.  The idea is to provide a trail, which may be joined and left at many different points, according to the pilgrims' time available.  Eventually, it is expected that proper shelters/accommodation and food etc., will be available to the general public and pilgrims throughout the trail.  Since the sites of interest will encompass many different religions and spiritual traditions, people will choose their own places to visit and worship.

Swamiji is traveling with few possessions, eating only when food is proffered, accepting shelter only when offered, as is the case in the far east when monks take to the road.  He will be giving teachings on Meditation and Yoga, from time to time upon request.  Some workshops on Discovering your Past Lives, seeing the Human Aura, Dream Analysis (from the spiritual point of view) and Spiritual Healing will be given from time to time.

Departure was October 1, 1999 from Victoria, B.C. and Swamiji is travelling south through the states of Washington, Oregon and California, across Arizona, Texas and Louisiana into Florida.  Some excursions into Mexico to visit sites of pilgrimage will also be undertaken.  From there he will travel north, up the eastern seaboard of the USA through the Carolinas, Virginia, New Jersey, New York and New England into the maritime provinces of Canada and across Canada.  As the reader can imagine, no exact dates are possible (nor desired), on such a long pilgrimage.  Part of this pilgrimage is also to experience and to affirm the essential goodness in people everywhere and thus to celebrate the Glory of the Divine reality.
