ARCHBISHOP DUKE: The Most Reverend William Mark Duke arrived in Vancouver in 1928 as coadjutor and was appointed Archbishop of Vancouver in 1931. During his 34-year tenure as sixth Archbishop of Vancouver, he was deeply respected by all who knew him and worked with him in the city.
Honoured by the City of Vancouver in 1968 by being made the 32nd Freeman of the City, he was presented with a citation that read that "He had devoted great piety and humanity to the people of God and the service of Christ."
ARCHBISHOP DUKE COUNCIL (Council 6855): Archbishop Duke Council 6855 was granted its charter on October 19, 1976. From that date until the summer of 1991, the council served Richmond's three parishes: St. Monica's, St. Paul's and St. Joseph the Worker.
Council
6855, after the successful formation of Christopher Columbus Council
10681 at St. Joseph the Worker in 1991, moved to St. Paul's
Parish. Council 6855 served Canadian Martyrs Parish until Council
11916 was installed in 1997, and also served St. Monica's Parish until
Council 12861 was installed in January 20, 2001. The council
sponsors a variety of church and community services throughout
Richmond. Many projects have become joint ventures in the
brotherhood with the participation of the four councils in Richmond.
