Assembly member Honda is a leader among growing movement of Asian
Pacific Americans who believe that Japan has not done enough to atone for World
War II war crimes. The California
Legislature recently approved Assembly member Honda's resolution (AJR 27) that
called on the Government of Japan to issue an unambiguous apology and pay
reparations to victims.
BIOGRAPHY: Born in California,
Assembly member Mike Honda has lived in Santa Clara County for over 40
years. His family returned to
California in 1953 after being interned during World War II.
Assembly member Honda was an outspoken advocate calling on the U.S.
Congress to apologize to Japanese Americans interned during WW II. Assembly member Honda was elected in 1991 as
Santa Clara County Supervisor and currently serves as the Chair of the
Committee on Public Safety, representing the metropolitan San Jose in the State
Assembly. His legislation has focused
on education, government efficiency, and consumer protection.
