Living in a new country can be difficult for many people. There are many organizations and government programs which can help new immigrants settle into life in Canada and to eventually become citizens of Canada.

Immigrant Services

Citizenship and Immigration Canada
Information about coming to Canada - applying for visas (visitor, student, work), permanent residency or Canadian citizenship. Electronic forms of the application package is available on this site. All publications by Citizenship and Immigration Canada are available for the public.

S.U.C.C.E.S.S.
One of the large immigrant services catering to Chinese immigrants all over the Lower Mainland. The site contains a comprehensive overview of services and programs operated by SUCCESS, as well as the addresses and phone numebrs of all fifteen offices throughout the Lower Mainland.

M.O.S.A.I.C.
MOSAIC offers many programs directed at immigrants such as employment programs, interpretation program, settlement services, LINC and translation. The site provides a detailed description of these programs as well as the addresses and phone numbers of their offices.

North Shore Multicultural Society
The North Shore Multicultural Society offers a wide range of services to new immigrants such as the settlement/integration services, job finding assistance, information referral, interpretation and translation, ESL classes and the HOST program.

Volunteers of the HOST Program offer friendship, guidance and emotional support to new immigrants. The program is funded by the Government of Canada and run by local community agencies.

Offers new immigrant services for the Taiwanese and Mandarin speaking community in the Lower Mainland. Services include referral services, English culture classes, citizenship classes as well as translation services.

NOTE: To become a Canadian citizen, you have to pass an exam of Canadian knowledge. We have not listed any specific links or contacts here for citizenship exam preparation classes, as there are many immigrant services organizations which offer citizenship preparation classes as part of their services. Please check Immigrant Services section of this web site for a list of these organizations.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada
Citizenship and Immigration Canada is the government department responsible for processing citizenship in Canada. This site contains all the information you need to know about citizenship, such as citizenship rights and responsibilities, procedure for applying for citizenship and electronic citizenship application forms and kits. You can find out where your nearest Citizenship and Immigration Canada office is on the web site as well.

Richmond Public Library - Practice Citizenship Exam
The Richmond Public Library has a practice citizenship test. The browser does the exam, and sends the answers to be marked and subsequently receives his/her score with answers to the questions answered incorrectly. A valuable resource for those preparing to take the citizenship exam.

Canadian Passport Office
The Canadian Passport Office web site includes information on how to apply for a Canadian passport, the cost of applying for a passport as well as addresses and contact numbers of Passport Offices throughout Canada. The site provides advice concerning lost or stolen passports.
