This is a page from a English-Chinese phrase book published in 1926 and written by Cheuk Ki Sha. These books were typically in use by immigrant Chinese who came to Canada and wished to learn English for business purposes - no formal English classes for immigrants were available during the early part of the 20th century. The preface of this book describes the content of the book:

"A Chinese and English phrase book of the technicalities of commerical correspondence, names of articles of trade, and marine terms with geographical names, business letters and table of abbreviations in common use in both languages"

The left-hand column contains the Chinese and English expression. The right column contains the pronunciation of the English expression in Chinese (Cantonese dialect).
