Unusual Pets...

By Dave Lefler

Rackie was caught in one of the garbage cans in the back of the cookhouse in Nimkish Lake logging camp (CFP) where I worked the early 1960's. He stayed with me for about two weeks in my room, but squeezed out of a window left ajar while I was gone. He was quite friendly though. The bed I had had drawers in underneath it and I started noticing paper clips and keys and things like that were going missing. One day I noticed he'd made a nest in the drawers under my bed, and there they all were.
Cougie was an orphan, who I  rescued from starvation at the age of 6 months when I was working at Nimkish Lake logging camp. My friend Jim and I fed him raw meat (he wouldn't eat otherwise) and kept him for about a month in the camp.

We tried to move him to Alberta, flying him on a passenger airplane as carry-on baggage! He arrived safely, but didn't last long there. While getting settled in, we tied him in the yard. Unfortunately, almost immediately he strangled himself accidentally on his chain after falling from a tree while tied in a yard.
