Abstract
For the past 5 years, Blaize Reich and colleagues have been trying to

difficult IT projects.

Demystifying the SEI CMMI
Marko Wolf-Pany, P.Eng., PMP
Abstract
CMMI is a process improvement approach that provides organizations with the
essential elements of effective processes that ultimately improve their
performance. CMMI can be used to guide process improvement across a project, a
division, or an entire organization. It helps integrate traditionally separate
organizational functions, set process improvement goals and priorities, provide
guidance for quality processes, and provide a point of reference for appraising
current processes.
The benefits you can expect from using CMMI include the following:
-
1. Your organization's activities are explicitly linked to your business
objectives.
-
2. Your visibility into the organization's activities is increased to help you
ensure that your product or service meets the customer's expectations.
-
3. You learn from new areas of best practice (e.g., measurement, risk)
CMMI is being adopted worldwide, including North America, Europe, Asia,
Australia, South America, and Africa. This kind of response has substantiated
the SEI's commitment to CMMI.

Working with the CMMI Framework A Workshop
Gary Chan, PMP
The CMMI Framework identifies two types of performance 'Maturity' and
'Capability'. In this workshop, we will explore the requirements for a
specific 'Capability' level for Project Management.

Successful Change Projects: The People Equation
Nicky Fried
Abstract
Seventy percent of change initiatives fail because those who are to carry out
the work are not fully engaged. This is a serious issue when most
organizations are either preparing for, consolidating, or in the midst of
change.
While the notion of "becoming more competitive" or "becoming closer to the
customer" can be the motivation to change, at some point these goals must be
transformed into specific impacts on processes, systems, organization
structures or job roles. While organizations put significant effort into
systems and processes, it is people issues that have the greatest potential to
derail a good idea and a solid project.
It is the people side of the equation that this presentation deals with; the
impact of change on employees and how to ensure that they are ready for change,
understand the need for it, the role they must play, and most importantly work
with the project team to ensure successful implementation.
During the session we will explore a psychological change model and its
implications for individuals and groups moving through change. In addition we
will review core strategies to ensure end users support and work with the
project team so that the change implicit in projects is rapidly and
successfully adopted.
