A Universal Tool for Understanding Culture
Daniel Dittrich, MScIS, PMP
Abstract
Problems in project teams arise very often from cultural differences.
Understanding these differences and the ways people from different cultural
backgrounds think, feel and act is key to avoid or solve those potential
problems. At the same time, research shows that multi-cultural teams are
outperforming mono cultural teams significantly if appropriately managed.
This presentation provides an introduction to the most popular universal tool
for understanding cultures the cross cultural dimensions, established by Gerd
Hofstede. Hofstede has introduced a framework that categorizes cultures
according to strategies for overcoming the universal chalenges of any society.
