Is This Project in Trouble? Early Detection and Recovery Techniques
Nancy Marshall, PMP
Abstract
Troubled Projects: Avoid. Recognize. Resolve.
The resource costs (dollars and people) associated with troubled project
situations are significant and can be avoided with strong project leadership
and by employing a disciplined methodology. However, problems arise for many
reasons and may go undetected or even ignored in the frenzy of execution. And
even when a major situation occurs, the 'quick & dirty' approach to resolve it
is often flawed and misguided in an attempt to not 'lose' any further time or
resources. This workshop will discuss proactive techniques to recognize and
deal with those subtle early warning signals, as well as tips to 'recover' your
project to significantly reduce the impact on your valuable organizational
resources. Participants will discuss, in groups, a troubled scenario providing
their insights and feedback back to entire group.

Data Migration: The Project within an ERP Implementation Project
Robert Schulz, PMP
Abstract
4th Deadly Sin Treat Conversions as a Low Priority
Data Conversion is a significant priority for ERP implementations. Often
referred to as the Project-within-a-Project, Data Conversion must be given the
attention it deserves to avoid this deadly sin.
In this workshop, participants will divide into six groups and analyse
different data conversion scenarios as part of an ERP implementation. Five
groups are asked to document a brief data conversion strategy and plan that
addresses the scenario and focuses on three Project Management Knowledge areas.
Group Six is asked to perform an analysis of pre conversion and post
conversion cleanup decisions against a fixed schedule and cost.

SIN #5 Choosing the System before Defining the Process
Kelly Gilchrist, PMP
Abstract
Sin is a strong word, and the implication of using it suggests that selecting a
software product before fully understanding the process it will need to
supportis a practice to be avoided at all costs. This begs the question about
this 'rule' as an absolute. This presentation will use typical scenarios
managers of technology face each day, and will show that sometimes
circumstances dictate that the most appropriate approach is a sinful one.

2000, and has worked in a number of different sectors in the Vancouver market.
Kelly was the Director, IT at a major BC forest company from 2003 2009, was
the Director, Business Systems Development & Sustainment at Ritchie Bros.
Auctioneers through July or 2012, and is now the Director, Systems

York in 1991, his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Mercyhurst

Your Transformation Program - $20M; A Willing and Able Workforce - Priceless
Sue Ann Bartecko, PMP
Abstract
This session will cover the what, when, why, how, and who of organizational
change management (CM). It will explore the value proposition of CM, the role
of CM on projects, common misperceptions of CM (what it is and is not), and
common challenges to delivering quality CM. The presentation will make the
case that CM is critical to protecting an IT investment because it makes the
difference between installation and true implementation of a solution by
building the willingness and ability of the impacted workforce to adopt the
solution. The session will also cover what change management looks like in
practice including an active CM framework, method, and actual tactics. The
interactive workshop portion will ask seminar participants to develop and
present change management tactics for a project case study.
