WorkshopShow Us Your Ethics: Dealing with Dilemmas While Managing Projects
Walter Wawruck, PMP
Abstract
The professional practitioner of project management has ethical and legal
duties to a number of parties, including the client, one's employer, team
members, and the public. Situations arise on projects where any course of
action will have negative consequences for some of these parties, or for the
project manager herself. This participatory workshop session will engage the
attendees in the analysis and discussion of case examples which bring out the
ethical issues and which illustrate some approaches to making the hard choices
in a morally defensible fashion.
Walter Wawruck will briefly outline some ethical frameworks, guiding principles
from professional codes of conduct, and decision making guidelines which can be
useful in dealing with dilemmas. The participants will contribute their own
experiences and will share the personal lessons they have gathered from the
ethical issues which they have dealt with in their projects.
