Second Notice of April 15, 2015 Seminar
"Social Responsibility and Stakeholder Consent"
|
The 73rd PM Professional Day will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at
the Executive Suites Hotel, Burnaby. Register now with Stan Shaw,
PMP at
[email protected]
. Do not reply to this email; instead, send a new message to
Stan Shaw.
Our agenda for the day will include these presentations and workshops:
-
PARTNERING
WITH
STAKEHOLDERS FOR A SUCCESSFUL PROJECT DELIVERY - A VANCOUVER CASE STUDY- Alady
Sukumar, PMP - Successful project management in any sector depends on having
the stakeholders with a common vision; this is particularly important for
large infrastructure projects where the project is expected to impact the life
of the people involved. In the case study, a partnering methodology will be
discussed as applied to an award winning infrastructure construction project
within the city of Vancouver.
-
OBTAINING STAKEHOLDER CONSENT "TRIAL BY FIRE" (Workshop) Sue Drinnan, PMP /
Stan Shaw, PMP What are some good tips you have discovered that have helped
get you past stakeholder apathy or outright resistance and resulted in a
successful outcome? This interactive workshop will not only put your skills to
the test, but also provide an opportunity to try out techniques that can be
useful in any project.
-
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND ELECTRONIC MEDICAL RECORDS - Stan Shaw, PMP -
Building stakeholder consent with vendors and physicians in clinical practice.
What are the decisions clinicians must face in order to maintain a
cost-effective, efficient clinical practice,
and to meet their legislated and professional responsibilities?
How do you approach an EMR implementation project with these issues to
consider, as a project manager?
-
STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT AND SOCIAL LICENCE FOR LARGE SCALE PROJECTS Duncan
Wood, PMP Large-scale infrastructure projects are currently being planned in
many areas of BC. Site C, various LNG Terminals as well as supporting pipelines
are but a few examples. This presentation will review best management practices
for stakeholder engagement and will also present the findings of independent
research about the public's opinion of some proposed large-scale projects in
BC.
-
ENGAGEMENT WITH ABORIGINAL GROUPS IN THE CONTEXT OF PMBOK PROCESS GROUPS AND
THE ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT PROCESS Monica Karpiak, PMP Engagement with
Aboriginal groups on projects requiring an environmental assessment can be
difficult, but is a regulatory requirement and key piece of the social licence
to operate. This presentation will look at the key activities to consider and
will provide examples from projects that have gone through BC or Federal
environmental assessments.
-
OWNER-COMMITMENT + PROJECT-TEAM ETHICS FOR LONG TERM SOCIAL LICENCE (Workshop)
Chris Quaife Can Social License be a normal part of a collaborative
planning/ assessment/ permitting/ hearing process, consistent with the law and
the rule of law? Is this desirable? An introduction and then break-outs will
build on conclusions reached during the preceding sessions of the seminar and
Social Licence issues from further case projects.

they spend as
participants, Presenters and Workshop Leaders can claim a PDU for each hour
spent
performing those roles, including preparation time
This is a full-day seminar. If you register it is understood that you plan
to attend for the entire day. If you leave early it is a discourtesy to your
fellow professionals. Another PMP from the wait-list has been denied the
opportunity to attend, and the presenters at the end of the day are
slighted.

Registration Policy - Fine Print
|
As an incentive - and reward - for service, the November 25, 2009 General
Meeting of the Society approved a priority system which gives preferential
access to seminar registration. Presenters, workshop leaders, management
team volunteers, and retired officers will be given first priority for
available seats for a period of time following their service. The remaining
seats will be assigned through a lottery as has been done in the past.
The list of individuals eligible for first priority seating, along with the
rules for assigning available seats, can be downloaded at
http://www.vcn.bc.ca/pmprof/A-List.PDF
For the April 15, 2015 seminar, once seats have been assigned to the
presenters, the management team for the day, and the priority applicants, a
lottery shall be used to determine which of the remaining applications for
registration are chosen for acceptance, in accordance with the rules set out
below.
Registration for a seminar does not open until a registration notice, such
as this one, is broadcast. There is no provision for advance registration.
Only those applications received after the time of broadcast will be
considered.
Each application received by the Registration Manager prior to midnight
Midnight April 1, 2015 will be assigned to either an A-list pool or a
regular
pool. Each application will be given a random priority number within the
pool. Available seats will first be awarded to those in the A-list pool in
priority sequence. The remaining available seats will be awarded to those in
the regular pool in priority sequence. Once the registration limit is
reached, the remaining applications will be placed on a wait list in
priority sequence, first A-list then regular. Each application received
after midnight April 1, 2015 will be assigned the next sequential regular
priority number in the order it is received, whether or not the applicant is
on the A-list.
Each application will be acknowledged and each acceptance will be confirmed
by email.
Each application received will be considered a firm offer to register and to
pay the full fee. Cancellations will be accepted up to midnight, Wednesday
April 8, 2015. Those on the waitlist will be accepted in priority order
if spaces become available prior to the cancellation deadline. A waitlist
candidate will be notified of acceptance by email. A waitlist candidate must
cancel to be removed from the list.
The Society will issue an email notice of acceptance to the address provided
in the registration application, but is not responsible for ensuring that
any registrant has received the notification of acceptance.
Any registrant who does not show is expected to pay the full seminar fee.
Accepted registrants who fail to pay the full seminar fee will be prohibited
from applying for registration at future events until the payment is
received.
Payment by cheque is preferred. Cash is accepted; please try to bring exact
change. There is an ATM in the hotel lobby. No credit cards or Interac
(debit cards) are accepted.
