One member of the Vancouver Burma Roundtable has organised a golf tournament as a fundraiser to help Burmese refugees living on the Thai-Burma border. The tournament will take place September 11th 2003, at the University Golf Club.
The objective is to raise $25,000 for humanitarian aid for Burmese refugees. The Tides Canada Foundation is handling the tax receipts, and will forward the net proceeds to Inter Pares.
Inter Pares, which has an existing relationship with the Burma Relief Centre, will forward the funds, earmarked for medical assistance and urgent food and shelter needs.
There are about 110 golfers registered or reliably committed, including human resources staff and consultants, some trade union reps and officers, and a lot of labour lawyers. There are still about 30 or so places to fill, and they all need to be filled in order to reach the fundraising goal.
