The Vancouver Community Network owns and operates a free, publicly accessible, non-commercial computer utility in the Lower Mainland of B.C. which provides a public space on the internet.
VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION
Network Support
Objective: To be part of a team to optimize and maintain all office equipment and provide technical support to VCN staff and volunteers
Training/Support to be provided by: Technical Co-ordinator, Office Co-ordinator
Duties:
Essential Qualifications:
- install, configure and support all offeice computer hardware/software, servers, printers, fax machines, and telephones
- provide technical support as needed
- test and troubleshoot computer lab equipment prior to all training sessions and provide ongoing maintenance
- create weekly back-ups of office files
- price and recommend improvements/replacements and solicit donations
- maintain tracking system for incoming donations of equipment and in-kind receipts
Time Commitment Required:
- ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English; additional languages an asset
- experience as a LAN administrator would be ideal
- knowledge of Windows 98, DOS and Linux
- knowledge of centrex phone systems and other office equipment
- knowledge of VCN and non-profit organizations
Location: VCN office, 411 Dunsmuir Street and online following period of orientation
- 4 hours per week for at least 4 months
- additional time to attend orientation, training and meetings and read online information
