Short holiday update - happiness is a new apartment

Hey ho.

Merry holidays and all that jazz.

Well, now that that is out of the way... The last update was a bit down, but I am pleased to announce that things are much better and I am settled in a new apartment.

New place

After living almost two weeks without a phone (the lent cell phone was almost useless as it is so expensive to call on it and annoying to boot), I decided to move. Again, I started looking on one day, and by the end of the next, I had found one. Turns out it is practically across the street from my old place. So, I arranged it for the following weekend and made sure this time that it got painted and cleaned up first. CUSO's lawyer checked over the contract for me... Everything was extra cautious this time.

Life feels sometimes like it has been busy with all this moving etc. Hopefully I am finally settled with no more problems. Thankfully it is vacation time, so I can relax and catch up on sleep. We did get to the beach on Sun again, so that was nice too.

I was thinking of a trip to Guatemala to visit a friend, but now have second thoughts since the friend of mine has to work and has no time.

Christmas Eve

Here in Nicaragua, the big day is the 24th. Families gather for dinner and stay up till midnight to exchange gifts and lit firecrackers. I personally dislike the firecrackers, so many kids get injured with them each year but it is a tradition here...

I spent the evening in the barrio, visiting families hadn't had time to visit for a while. It was nice. Then I had dinner with Nubia's family and we danced and watched the neighbour's kids try to blow each other up. It was good though. In the barrio, everyone sets up their table and chairs on the street or porch and it is a very communal atmosphere. In the richer neighbourhood, comparable to a gated community, this does not happen.

Anyway just a quick note to wish everyone happy holidays etc. Hope all is well in your world. Take care,
Rob
