The Vancouver Community Network owns and operates a free, publicly accessible, non-commercial computer utility in the Lower Mainland of B.C. which provides a public space on the internet.
VOLUNTEER JOB POSTING
User Support
Volunteers in this area provide direct in-person, online and telephone help to all users and members of VCN by answering questions, processing membership payments, making referrals to other sources of help and maintaining office and online documentation of inquiries and registrations
Positions available in this area:
WantBasic requirements:
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English
- Solid interpersonal skills, and telephone manner
- Good problem-solving and organizational skills
- Strong desire to learn
- Intermediate internet experience
- Knowledge of VCN and non-profit organizations
- Commitment to one 4-hour shift per week for a minimum of 4 months
(9:00-1:00 or 12:30-4:30 Monday to Friday)- Value and respect for diversity
Assets:
- Knowledge of the content on VCN's website, particularly HelpPages and FAQ's
- Experience setting up internet connections in Windows 3.1, Mac, Linux
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting dial-up networking
- Experience with text-based access/programs
- Experience troubleshooting hardware/software problems
- Adult tutoring or teaching experience
- Additional languages
