New Stage announces "Earle Birney: Celebration of Vancouver"
October
17, 2006 ... Vancouver New Stage, a professional theatre company, will
present "Earle Birney: Celebration of Vancouver" at the
Vancouver Public Library (Central Branch), November 2, 2006, at
7:30 p.m.
On
December 7, 2005, Vancouver New Stage officially announced to
Vancouver City Hall (Office of Cultural Affairs) its Creative
Mission: to present programming that reflects the life of our
city through the talent of its artists. Vancouver New Stage will
produce and promote the work of Canadian playwrights and
creatively unite these works with an international repertoire of
plays that speak to Vancouver audiences and their experience of
life in our city.
On
December 15, 2005, Vancouver New Stage officially announced to
the Ministry of Tourism, Sport and the Arts the "Earle
Birney: Celebration of Vancouver" project featuring the
works of Vancouver's legendary poet and Canada's literary giant
Earle Birney.
The
project will present the famous epic November Walk Near False
Creek Mouth together with Birney's other renowned Vancouver
poems Vancouver Lights, Pacific Door, The
Shapers: Vancouver, January Morning/ Downtown
Vancouver, Dusk on the Bay.
Vancouver
New Stage approaches Earle Birney's works as an important part of
our city's cultural heritage. In all these works, that were
written about our city and in it, Earle Birney has artistically
captured the life of Vancouver as a modern city.
Vancouver
New Stage will introduce contemporary Vancouverites to Birney's
spellbinding imagination and the embracing warmth and respect he
felt for Vancouver and its people.
Earle
Birney's work has so much to inspire 21st century Vancouverites:
it is a true anthem to the spirit of our city.
The
project features Vancouver New Stage's
artists-in-residence Ruth McIntosh and Lisa Waines,
directed by Thomas Novak.
