SUMMARY REPORT - Murals

On the back wall of the conference centre were two murals. Participants were asked to add their comments to Mural 1 at the start of the conference and to Mural 2 near the end of the conference. Here were the responses:

What does health promotion mean to you?
  • Improved quality of health through better health
  • Setting a good example
  • Getting off prescription drugs and on with natural remedies
  • My dignity is recognized, valued, and maintained
  • Communication
  • Appreciate diversity (more than tolerance)
  • Leading from behind: a rainbow of love, education, advocacy and empowerment
  • The best way to begin is to start - Just do it
  • Beginning with parents/couples before birth and teaching the children
  • Healthy relationships
  • Being in charge of your own health
  • Good health comes by choice, not by chance!
  • Curling: good for physical and mental health
  • You can't care for anyone else if you don't care for yourself
  • Provide opportunities for the community to share what they know about helping themselves to good health

What did you learn about health promotion?
  • Partnership at all levels.
  • Maintain, keep relationships healthy.
  • Avoid tunnel vision
  • To take time out!
  • Get to know the mayor and council and what their beliefs are
  • Learn something new, craft, hobby, education, etc.
  • Learn to relax, deep breathe, meditate
  • The healing power of rain
  • Wholeness
  • Pamper yourself
  • It's too easy to get caught up with living life in the fast lane!
  • To become politically active - the grassroots can make a difference
  • Small steps
  • Wish I had known about today's information in my 20s and 30s, but it's never too late to learn and grow
  • The galaxy is huge, life is short, make the most of it.
