Software
Here you will find information about the software installed by default at the CAP sites. Each site, having particular needs and uses, is welcome to install or remove software as necessary.
- The recycled 486 routers/firewalls are installed with software from the Linux Embedded Appliance Firewall (LEAF) project. This Open Source project is described on their webpage as an "easy to use embedded Linux network appliance for use in small office, home office, and home automation environments. Although it can be used in other ways, it's primarily used as a gateway/router/firewall for Internet leaf sites."
- Openoffice is an Open Source office productivity suite of programs on par with Microsoft Office. Much of the documentation for users is in the OpenOffice "Help" menu, under "Contents".
- Open Office Documentation Project is a great resource of OpenOffice information and documentation.
- Open Office Extras project "intends on being a community repository for third party templates, macros, and a clip art image library. The goal is to create a downloadable add-on package to greatly enhance OpenOffice.org's functionalities."
- Gimp, which is an acronym for "Gnu Image Manipulation Program", provides the functionality of such popular programs as Adobe Photoshop. On the main page, you can find tutorials, FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions), examples and manuals.
- WinDVD claims to be the "World's Most Popular Software DVD Player". It allow sites to play DVDs on the CAP computer.
