About Us
New Westminster Family Place is a family resource
program for families with children from newborn to five years old.
We are a member of the BC Association of Family
Resource Programs.
The mandate for the society is "to
promote, encourage and provide family related services and learning
skills programs with a preventative and educational focus aimed at low
income individuals."
Our History
New Westminster Family Place was opened in 1989
after 3 years of planning and fundraising with the help of the Public
Health Unit and the Interagency Committee.
This service was seen as necessary to the
community, providing support and prevention services to isolated
families with young children.
Our Funding
Operating funds come from the Ministry for Children
and Family Development, Fraser Health Authority,
Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General - Gaming Policy and
Enforcement Branch, and various forms of fundraising events as well
as donations.
We also receive funding from the United Way
of the Lower Mainland and are
registered under the Society Act and have charity status with Revenue
Canada.
Comments from a Mother
"Family Place has been a much needed addition
to our family routine. My son and I have created many lasting
relationships with both children and mothers, not to mention the great
programs that are offered to help with child rearing. Thanks for
everything."
