Lama Jamyang Tharchen was born in Dharamsala, India on January 3rd, 1964. He always enhoyed drawing as a young child. At the age of 8 he entered Bir Sakya Monastery and made contact with the famous Thangka painter, Lama Choedak Gyatso. The monastery was being built at the time so most of his training was work related. He helped to paint the monastery and carve designs for 3 years. His formal training began after that. Thangka painters require many years of training in this art form.
Lam a Jamyang has painted thangkas for most for the major Sakya monasteries as wll as monasteries of other lineages in India, Taiwan, Nepal, Bhutan, and Sikkim. He has painted thangkas for His Holiness the Dalai Lama and His Holiness the Sakya Trizin. This is his first visit to Canada and he will be working on a thangka for Her Eminence Jetsun Chimey Luding.
Lama Jamyangs's sense of humor and talent should make this a enjoyable class for all.
In this class, Lama Jamyang will demonstrate how to properly draw the Buddha's body using the precise measurements. Students will spend about 3 classes learning to do the measurements. The class will involve teachings, demonstrations, and students participation. You will learn to sketch the Buddha and the use of colour.
