The Vancouver Community Network owns and operates a free, publicly accessible, non-commercial computer utility in the Lower Mainland of B.C. which provides a public space on the internet.

Public Access Support
Volunteers in this area are involved in hardware and software assessment, upgrading, and installation; programming projects; providing technical hardware, software and local area network support to VCN staff, volunteers and community group partners and users.
Positions Available:
Basic Requirements for positions in this area:
- Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills
- Excellent problem-solving and documentation skills
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English
- Ability to:
- Download, install, configure, assess software
- Set up and test PC's, monitors, keyboards, other peripherals
- Configure Dial-up networking and terminal software
- Use various Internet browsers, mail programs and ftp programs
- Communicate effectively in written and spoken English
- Commit to at least 4 hours per week for at least 4 months
(9:00-1:00 or 12:30-4:30 Monday to Friday)- Value and respect for diversity
Assets:
- Experience using any of the following:
- Unix / GNU/Linux
- Perl / CGI
- ACCESS / SQL database
- Knowledge of open source software
- Knowledge of VCN and non-profit organizations
- Additional languages
