Channel Complexing
Streamside Planting
Wetland Restoration
One of the most significant activities the society is involved in is restoration of the many watercourses and wetlands within the
watershed. This ranges from complete stream channel rehabilitation to removal of invasive alien invaders such as Himalayan blackberry
while enhancing plant community diversity with a range of native species. The society began working with the City of Coquitlam's Parks,
Operation and Drainage Departments in 1998, and with private landowners in 1999. To date, over a kilometer of the watershed has been
enhanced through instream complexing and habitat creation projects and riparian/wetland plantings. Since work began in 1996 we are
already seeing the fruits of our volunteer labours and partnerships through increased fish productivity and diversity in bird and
wildlife populations. Just as important is the resulting appreciation, sense of pride and ownership the community has taken in protecting
the watershed. With the continued support of the community, we expect to be re-establishing and enhancing these values in the watershed
for many more years to come.
