Water Quality
Stream Productivity
Effective environmental planning, conservation and advocacy in the Como watershed is dependent on having up to date quality information on the state of local watershed health. This includes understanding how salmon, trout and other fish species utilize the watershed and the presence or absence and distribution of other indicators like benthic invertebrates. Other studies that have been undertaken include water quality monitoring for standard metrics like pH and dissolved oxygen, and more recently more complex parameters such as metals, organics and coliform. The students of local secondary and Post secondary institutions such as Charles Best Secondary, Centennial High School, BCIT and Douglas College have provided the much needed resources to undertake these trend studies. As part of understanding the complex ecological relationships, potentials and constraints for the area the society has expanded its studies to assessing wildlife interactions and distribution throughout the watershed as well as invasive species. To date, a host of reports, survey's and assessments have been generated. These reports are available through the society for use by students or consultants doing work or research in the area. Those in bold below are available digitally as individual files or on a compilation CD Rom at a cost of $10.00. To order your copy, or inquire further please contact the CWG.
