The 2010 Dream

Forming an art society on the North Island has been tried before, with little success, but we feel the time is right to make it a reality. The opportunity presented itself when BC was given the right to host the 2010 Winter Games. Artists came together on the North Island and created a non-profit society in the spring of 2004. Then went on to have a number of art shows together during the summer and continue to have regular meetings through the winter. The formation of a North Island Artist’s Society at this time has a number of benefits for NorthIsland artists:

1. We are in touch with the people who  are working on the 2010 Olympics Committee. We are told that we must be a society for a year in order to get funding for our projects such as a planned DVD, coffee table book, and traveling art shows.

2.   Each artist, through the above projects will have exposure to media and public in a way he/she could not possibly have on their own. The public is attracted to group shows more readily than to shows by individuals. Publicity showing that we are funded by the Olympics will further this attraction. We are aiming at possible shows during the 2006 Olympics in Turin, Italy and the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. We are hoping to get funding from the Olympic Committee to take a show on a circuit around North America to help publicize BC’s Olympics.

3.   Since we represent North Vancouver Island, the benefits for local tourism are unlimited. We will not only help excite North Island’s economy but in the process kindle our own artistic careers. The benefits for North Island and for its people extend far beyond 2010.

4.   You will grow, as an artist and a respected member of the North Island Community.

5.   You will be leaving a legacy as a charter member of our society. The larger our membership, the stronger we will be and the bigger our chances to make a lasting impression on North Island.

6.   We need you in NVIAS to give it a boost but you also need the companionship within the society for inspiration when you feel alone. Join us. We’d love to have you!

Benefits of NVIAS Membership

There are art societies all over the world that will attest to positive benefits that members enjoy. Rather than re-invent the wheel and start listing all the good things that happen when people join together, such as a sense of belonging and the power to achieve goals that are not possible as individuals. Art is essentially a solitary effort and should remain so since we all have unique ways of expressing ourselves, however group efforts can be utilized to attain goals that are impossible to achieve alone.
