Volunteer Information and Job Descriptions
Throughout the years, Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS) has depended on the much-valued support it our volunteer staff. Their dedication and commitment have contributed significantly to the success of TUTS and are greatly appreciated. Are you interested in becoming a volunteer?
As a volunteer you will be part of an exciting summer experience, continuing in the long history of outdoor theatre in Stanley Park, and may learn new and interesting skills.
Qualified volunteers, who work for at least five evenings, will receive a Certificate of Appreciation for their position, and may earn as many as four tickets to the shows to use or give to friends. They will also be welcome to attend fun activities such as the cast and crew BBQs and the closing night celebration.
We ask that volunteers come to Malkin Bowl between 5:30 and 6:00 pm on the evenings that they are working. In order that you become more familiar with your team duties, and to qualify for your TUTS Volunteer Certificate, please commit to five evenings during the season to TUTS.
Volunteer positions are not limited only to those who are interested in performance. Volunteer opportunities include Front of House, Backstage and Technical positions.
FRONT OF HOUSE:
Volunteers will perform functions in a customer service area. These are key positions that contribute to the audience's enjoyment of the show, such as:
- Ticket taker - responsible for taking tickets from audience members, directing them to seats, and directing reserved ticket holders to the reserved area.
- Pass gate - handle the necessary procedures for audience members to leave and return to the area during show times and intermission.
- Office/Clerical - help out with administrative work.
- Program Sales - walk around the area, selling programs to audience members, circulate in the reserved section, answer questions.
BACKSTAGE AND TECHNICAL:
- Backstage - props, makeup, costumes.
- Technical - lighting , spots.
