Grief

is our companion
a memory
growing inside us
like a cancer proliferating out of control
I touch your pain
and see in you
my reflection

I look forward to hearing from you.

TITLE:"SUNSET OVER MANHATTAN"                                                                                         SIZE FRAMED:24" x 36"                                                                             MEDIUM: METALLIC PHOTO BASED ART  ON ARTIST STRETCHED CANVAS

DESCRIPTION:This image of a sunset over Manhattan has a double meaning. It was taken from Ellis Island,(the former immigration holding area), almost nine months to the day prior to 9/11. The mood of this work is uncanny. In the largest and busiest city of the USA, the city stands virtually still and quiet with not a person in sight. The gold of the sunset strikes the Ellis Island wall which is etched with the names of the thousands of early settlers. The golden rays of the sunset on their names, symbolizes the hope of these early immigrants for a new life in America with the dream of wealth and properity. Standng in the background, like two soldiers guarding the city, are the WorldTradeCenter towers, which at the same time, are illuminated in red by the sun, symbolizing the fire and carnage of 9/11 with the thousands of people in them, who lost their lives and their dreams. A stark contrast to the thousands who came for a new life and to the thousands who left so tragically.

TITLE: "AND THE LADY WEEPS"
SIZE FRAMED: 18" x 24"                                           MEDIUM: ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
CANVAS DESCRIPTION:This painting is symbolic. Gold paint is used to depict the wealth of the famous New York City skyline buildings. Standing next to them is the Statue of Liberty, (the lady), which has historically represented friendship, hope and freedom. An ironic statement as upon close observation, one sees a tiny teardrop shed from her eye as she stands alongside the smoke that has enveloped and destroyed the twin towers of the WTC. The apple laying at the bottom of the painting symbolizes the nickname of NYC, "The Big Apple". It has two bites of the apple taken out, representing the loss of the twin towers by the terrorists' attack.

"Artist statement"

The "x" generation, the "me" generation watched in horror as the symbols of power and wealth came crumbling to the ground. The forced contemplation of who, why, was obliterated by the enormity of the result. The arrow in the

heart of America, dividing, fracturing the globe yet again. The target was easy, the symbol of all who place finance over human beings, but the why...lost in the double speak and gratuitous propaganda of the self appointed rulers.
