For two weeks, MusicFest Vancouver (formerly Festival Vancouver) will be offering 50 concerts and events showcasing some of the best classical, world music and jazz performers in the world. The spotlight this year is on the Music and Musicians of Germany, and some amazing German artists have been booked. The acclaimed Leipzig String Quartet is back and one of the world's most innovative jazz organists, Barbara Dennerlein, kicks off the Jazz at the Rothstein Series. In the same series, there will be two separate concerts with French double-bassist Renaud García-Fons, who can make his bass sound like a viola, a cello or even a violin. Admission

Dates and Venue 7 - 21 August 2009, 7pm + pm matinees on Saturdays | Queen Elizabeth Park Updated for the 21st Century, this take on The Canterbury Tales features contemporary counterparts of Chaucer’s classic characters telling hilarious, insightful, and often sordid tales of love, power, and religion. Five tourists, who are modern versions of The Canterbury Tales’ classic characters, partake in a guided tour themed around Chaucer’s life and times. The Road To Canterbury showcases the timelessness of The Canterbury Tales and the themes it explored with three main tools Chaucer would no doubt approve of: wit, satire, and music. Her luck changes when Billionaire Oliver Warbucks invites Annie to his house for Christmas and the two hit it off as Annie wins his heart. "Thoroughly Modern Millie" is a high-spirited musical romp that has all of New York dancing the Charleston.
