LEESIDE STEWARDSHIP GROUP

The Leeside Stewardship Group is dedicated to finding a long term solution for the tunnel and its diverse community of users.  This involves facilitation of the design, build, and continued stewardship of a multi-use community space devoted to the youth cultures of the skateboarding, bike, and graffiti communities; while maintaining the pedestrian thoroughfare function of the space.

The Leeside Stewardship Group consists of:

Claire MacGougan – Hastings Community Policing Center
Brenda Penton – Hastings Community Policing Center
Paul Calderhead – Vancouver Parks  Board / Hastings Community Center
Don/Haida  – Hastings Community Center
Jennifer Scott – Vancouver School Board

Governance:

Governance of the group is to be determined by the core members mentioned above.  Decisions will be made through structured votes requiring a 50% quorum to bring an issue to a vote and then a majority to approve it.  New members need to be approved by the group before being granted voting privileges.

The Leeside Stewardship Group Aims To:

• Develop a space commemorating the memory of Lee Matasi
• Oversee the design and build of the youth park
• Develop a safe and accessible space in which the public feels welcome while serving the needs of the skateboarding, cycling, graffiti communities
• Retain the use of the tunnel as a pedestrian thoroughfare
• Identify Stakeholders and clarify their roles and responsibilities
• Develop a common vision for the tunnel with good communication between all stakeholders
• Maintain the integrity of the vision
• Incorporate new interests
• Promote the positive attributes that the skateboarding, bicycling, and graffiti communities bring to the space
• Outreach to ECOMM
• Manage fundraising efforts 
• Solve jurisdictional issues (especially maintenance)
• Utilization of the space for community programming and youth engagement purposes (events, contests, jams, lessons, clean-ups)
• Maintain ongoing stewardship of the tunnel
