WFM-C Youth Network
What Is It? A network of clubs on university and college campuses, it will be composed of individuals who wish to become informed, educate others and take action on major issues facing humankind today. What Are The Issues? While students at local and cross-country levels will decide themselves where to focus their energies, topics might include globalization and social justice, eco-footprinting and the environment, UN reform and global parliament, Canadian foreign policy and the weaponization of space, humanitarian intervention and peacekeeping, terrorism and arms control, and global health. Action Alerts The core of the program connecting clubs across Canada will be the production and dissemination of action alerts to educate students and the public and to spur them to take action on political, economic, social and environmental crises that face Canadians and the world today. A sample action alert calling for international humanitarian intervention in Sudan can be found at http://www.vcn.bc.ca/wfcvb/sudalert.html National Steering Committee By means of phone hook-ups, e-mail, and face-to-face meetings when possible, a Steering Committee of conscientious socially active leaders drawn from youth across Canada will set the project's direction. The Committee will work with the project co-ordinator. The Steering Committee will be the voice of the youth network on the national stage, supporting individuals and groups across the country while promoting goals of human rights and social justice. Support Alongside the project co-ordinator, students will receive support from the World Federalist Movement - Canada, an international citizen's movement founded in 1951dedicated to strengthening the creation and enforcement of international law through new and revitalized democratic world institutions such as a reformed United Nations. WFM-C has a national office in Ottawa and branches in major cities across Canada. The current President of the World Federalist Movement-Canada is the Hon. Warren Allmand, former Canadian Solicitor General, and the Past President is the Hon. Flora MacDonald, former Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs. Local Projects In addition to cross-country campaigns, each campus club may offer its own program of speakers and films to inform other students and the general public on topics of interest. What Are The Benefits? Educational - an opportunity to become better informed. Social - an opportunity to interact with students across Canada. Political - an opportunity to influence Canadian foreign policy and the march of events.
